About Spruced Up Home & Spruced Upholstery

We are small business based on the lovely East Lothian coast, just outside Edinburgh, Scotland. Spruced Upholstery and Spruced Up Home were launched in October 2014 by Ros McIntosh.

Ros works out of the summerhouse at the bottom of her garden, with frequent use of the family kitchen table.  She offers a hand crafted service with a dedication to detail and finish.  Mixed with a splash of colour,  her use of gorgeous quality and vintage fabric gives her home furnishings and bespoke furniture a unique feel.  Styled with a hint of mid century her cushions, lampshades and furniture are equally at home in a contemporary or traditional interiors setting.

Ros has studied upholstery for the last three years and been sewing for most of her life.

“My earliest memories are of happy afternoons playing with my Mum’s sewing box as she pedaled away at her old Singer treadle sewing machine making William Morris curtains and Cloth Kits maxi dresses. This is where my love of sewing and vintage fabrics started.

My own family moved into our 1970s villa over a decade ago and in between the school runs I’ve been sourcing vintage furniture and accessories for our home.I started out sprucing up mid-century pieces for us but before long friends were asking me to do work for them and my small business began”

Despite it's recent beginnings Spruced Upholstery and Spruced Up Home have already established a reputation for providing high quality and uniquely styled furniture and furnishings for a large number of clients.

Ros’s home and work recently featured in House Beautiful magazine.
